I'm a communications student at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Through my communications studies, I've come to notice the impact of this scholarship in all aspects of daily life, but I'm especially drawn to written and non-verbal communications in popular culture and rhetoric.
I wanted to focus my topic on protest in fashion, emphasizing the contributions and creations of Vivienne Westwood. I'm fascinated by the strategic use of both verbal and non-verbal communication present in fashion-based protest.
Over the course of 10 weeks, I conducted my research into the history fashion as a means of protest, and, subsequently, on Vivienne Westwoods contributions to this field. The activism shown through her designs, campaigns, and interviews all contribute to her overall communicative reach, and that is what I wanted to focus on.
